ROEM x LIFF 2025 — The 3-Layer Stamp
The project was inspired by the Japanese kasane-oshi method, a traditional stamping technique in which multiple impressions are layered on top of each other to gradually form a single image. Instead of one perfect press, the image emerges through accumulation.
For LIFF 2025, ROEM translated this idea into a city-scale gesture by designing a multilayered stamp composed of three different colored stamps — 💚 💙 💜. Each location held one color layer, and when the three were combined, the full design clicked into place.
LIFF 2025
The stamp was spread across three LIFF locations in Leiden. Visitors collected one layer per venue and built up the final print by stamping the three colors on top of each other.
- Trianon Leiden
- Volkshuis Leiden
- Kijkhuis Leiden
The result was a small but visible presence of LIFF throughout the city. The stamp became a casual entry point into the festival—something you could encounter while moving between cinemas, even without planning to attend a screening.
The 3-color approach
A stamp is normally a single, quick gesture. By splitting it into three layers, it turned into a tiny system: move through the city → collect → align → reveal. The final result wasn’t just a graphic; it functioned as a souvenir of a route, a festival moment, and a shared ritual across venues.
Thanks to everyone who took part and helped build the full design during LIFF 2025.
