For the song that cracks us open as if our everyday self were an egg from which the chick inside can’t escape by its own power. And some records come close – they break us down for a minute or for an hour and afterwards we feel freer.
They might even save our life in some way. But – to our knowledge – no-one has yet found the record that truly fulfills them, saves them, redeems them. Even though everyone seems to feel they know, deep in their heart, how it should sound (who hasn’t heard it in a dream and woken up to the mute ringing of loss?). Perhaps it’s because everything we hear just starts sounding so familiar so fast, it seems. Or has the endless, restless flood of novelty our culture produces maybe robbed it of the ability to innovate. Can we even sit still and listen anymore?
These are tricky questions. Forget them.
The important thing is that we here at Imagine Records are fanatically committed to finding that one record for you.
For @peelslowlyandseefestival we (@roemleiden) have created the Imaginary Record Store. An artist behind the check-out, a recordplayer in the corner, but the main attraction of this market of misapprehension are crates of non existing vinyl records. Without the accompanying context, you might just think these are existing acts. The idea is to use your own fantasy to come up with exactly what kind of music fits these concoctions.
We invite you to explore the nostalgia and wonder that makes discovering new music such a life-giving journey.
