Distorted Reflections (Dutch Design Week 2024)

"Distorted Reflections" was part of the Circular Creator Club's exhibition in Klokgebouw at the Dutch Design Week. I repurposed materials into two artworks "In the Spotlight" and "SpaceTime"—two captivating works that challenge perception and unveil the inseparable bond between space and time.

In the Spotlight

In the Spotlight reveals the thin line between being in the limelight and living under constant surveillance. A spotlight on a tripod films the area in front of two old CRT-TVs, allowing viewers to see their own reflection. The distortions and imperfections in the image symbolize how cameras and the internet can present a distorted view of reality. In an era where everything ends up online and celebrities are relentlessly followed, this work invites contemplation on our obsession with visibility, control, and the distortion of truth.

SpaceTime
SpaceTime combines a classic grandfather clock with an infinity mirror inside the case. It symbolizes the inseparable connection between space and time. While the clock displays the passage of time, the infinity mirror creates an infinite depth in space. The interplay between the ticking seconds and the endless reflections invites contemplation on how time and space permeate each other and together form the fabric of our universe. The work explores the infinity of both time and space and how they together influence our perception of reality.
